Edinburgh-founded legal AI startup Wordsmith has raised a $14 million extension to its Series B, bringing total capital to $114 million. The round was led by new investor Intact Private Capital, with participation from existing backers Highland Europe and Index Ventures, plus FT Ventures joining as a new shareholder.
Wordsmith reported 14-fold year-over-year revenue growth and now serves 500+ customers including BT, Financial Times, Sage, Starling, Canva, and Safelite. The company targets in-house legal teams—not law firms—building AI agents that route legal requests, execute routine work against approved playbooks, and escalate matters requiring human judgment. Some customers report seven-figure reductions in outside counsel spending within weeks.
The 10-week gap between June's $70M Series B (total to $100M) and this extension signals investor appetite for the in-house legal stack: the global legal AI market is valued at $5.21B in 2026 and projected to reach $40.94B by 2034 at a 29.4% CAGR. Wordsmith is using the extension to deepen North America presence and expand into financial services and insurance sectors, where legal teams need enterprise-scale, auditable systems.
