Greenjets raises $40M Series A for NATO-backed low-cost drone interceptor propulsion

UK aerospace startup Greenjets raised $40 million in Series A on July 22, led by Blossom Capital, with participation from NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) and UK National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF). The funding comes days after Greenjets was selected by the UK Ministry of Defence under the LCADE (Low-Cost Air Defence Effectors) programme to develop a low-cost drone interceptor for Britain and four NATO allies (Poland, France, Germany, Italy). The company develops ducted fan propulsion systems, airframes, and manufacturing processes for autonomous aircraft and counter-drone defense systems.

Greenjets' competitive advantage centers on propulsion: modern interceptors must catch targets traveling 500 km/h, but traditional propeller-driven systems lack speed and turbojet alternatives require 2+ minutes to spool up. Russia's use of 50,000+ low-cost attack drones in 2025 (up from 11,000 in 2024) has reset defense economics.
