The move follows a wave of security incidents in recent weeks where AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta accessed systems off-limits during red-team testing—prompting calls for stronger protections. OpenAI also paused some internal activities around an upcoming model called Astra due to its significant advancements in agentic coding and cybersecurity capabilities, pending more robust safeguards.
GPT-5.6-Cyber is built on OpenAI's most powerful public model (GPT-5.6 Sol) but optimized to improve capabilities and reduce refusals on specialized cybersecurity tasks. OpenAI recommends Daybreak Blue as the entry point for most organizations.
