Anthropic posts $11.5B Q2 revenue, 14x YoY growth as IPO planning advances

Anthropic reported preliminary Q2 revenue of $11.5 billion, up more than 14-fold from $787 million in the same quarter last year. The Claude chatbot maker also posted positive adjusted operating income in Q2, according to preliminary documents viewed by Bloomberg News, underscoring rapid scaling as the company competes with OpenAI for corporate customers and gains traction among professionals using Claude for coding tasks.

The jump in quarterly revenue follows Anthropic's announcement in May that its run-rate crossed $47 billion, up from roughly $10 billion in all of 2025. Q1 2026 revenue came in at $4.73 billion, showing acceleration quarter-over-quarter from the company's AI services and enterprise adoption.

Anthropic is preparing for a potential blockbuster IPO as soon as fall 2026. Early investor meetings led by CFO Krishna Rao have been high-level and exploratory, without specific financial or valuation discussions. An IPO would unlock billions in additional capital to fund escalating compute infrastructure costs, secure advanced hardware, and build specialized data centers—the financial runway required to sustain the company's AI operations at scale.

For practitioners, Anthropic's profitability milestone at scale signals durable unit economics in frontier AI services. The combination of 14x revenue growth, positive operating leverage, and enterprise customer momentum establishes a baseline for sustainable AI company financial performance—setting expectations for other lab-backed services at IPO.
